Head Advanced Robotics
Full-time
Luxembourg · Karlsruhe, Germany
Join us in solving one of industrial robotics' toughest challenges
R3 Robotics is developing the AI-powered dismantling platform that transforms end-of-life electric vehicle systems into strategic sources of critical materials. As global electrification accelerates, the surge in batteries and e-motors requires automated solutions that manual disassembly cannot provide. We are addressing this industrial bottleneck by enabling the automated dismantling of complex systems at scale through computer vision, artificial intelligence, and specialized robotic tooling.
Following a successful €20M Series A funding round led by HG Ventures and Suma Capital, we are expanding across Europe and the United States. We partner with major industrial recyclers and automotive OEMs to deliver measurable impact. If you seek to work on advanced robotics within a well-funded organization scaling internationally, this is your opportunity.
Your Role
We are looking for a Head of Robotics Software to lead our software team of engineers and own how we build and ship robotics software. Reporting to our VP Software, you will run the team day to day, co-own the architecture of our system, and own the software development lifecycle from prototype to production. This is a leadership role for someone who still enjoys being close to the code.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the software team, and take ownership of tactical delivery.
- Mentor team leads and engineers and measurably improve how the team performs.
- Co-own the system architecture with the VP Software.
- Own the software development lifecycle: planning, design reviews, testing, release and deployment.
- Stay hands-on: design and write code for critical parts of our ROS/ROS2 stack, and take the lead on the hardest technical problems.
- Review code and set engineering standards for the team (testing, code quality, documentation).
- Work with the perception, machine learning and automation teams to integrate vision, ML models and PLC-controlled equipment into the robotic system.
- Collaborate with leadership, R&D, product and manufacturing to shape the robotics and software roadmap.
- Manage technical relationships with external software consultants and technology partners as needed.
Must have
- Degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering or a related field.
- Experience leading engineering teams, including managing managers.
- You have shipped a robotics product combining hardware and software to production.
- Solid hands-on experience with ROS/ROS2, and you still write code.
- Solid experience with machine learning in a robotics context.
- Familiarity with PLCs.
- Experience in a startup or small company (under 50 people).
Nice to have
- Experience with computer vision.
- Background in a regulated industry.
- Industrial robot programming (ABB, KUKA, FANUC or similar).
- Experience building an engineering or product roadmap.
- High degree of collaboration and autonomy while working with a group of highly skilled, committed and supportive peers
- Transparent culture where everyone of us is highly valued
- Development of your professional skills and knowledge by taking ownership of challenging tasks and responsibilities, supported by Leads and peers
- “Getting things done” attitude, and access to cutting edge technologies
- A guaranteed steep continuous learning curve from day one
- Equity Package
- Complementary Health Insurance
