These world-class technological advances benefit the whole value chain, resulting in increased daily usable charge capacity, longer battery life, and improved safety monitoring and control. Located in Salem, MA, Titan’s innovative strides have been recognized with numerous awards and funding from multi-national corporate investment groups, venture capital and top clean energy programs and institutions, including Greentown Labs, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and the Department of Energy. Growing and poised to continue their positive momentum, this is an exciting time to join the Titan team!

About the Role

Titan is seeking a highly experienced Senior Systems Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership for our hardware engineering organization. This is not a purely analytical or documentation-focused systems engineering position. We are looking for a seasoned engineer who is comfortable working directly with hardware, solving problems on the floor, reviewing designs, coordinating engineering disciplines, and helping a multidisciplinary team execute at a high level. The Senior Systems Engineer will serve as a key technical leader within the Massachusetts engineering team and will help translate product requirements into robust, manufacturable, deployable systems. The ideal candidate has strong systems-engineering fundamentals combined with significant practical engineering experience and the judgment that comes from having designed, built, debugged, and delivered complex equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership to Titan's multidisciplinary hardware engineering team.
  • Lead system-level architecture, requirements definition, design reviews, interface management, integration, and verification.
  • Translate product and customer requirements into clear engineering requirements and system specifications.
  • Coordinate work across mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, sensing, software, and manufacturing disciplines.
  • Identify technical risks, system dependencies, interface problems, and integration issues early in the development process.
  • Drive disciplined engineering execution from concept through prototype, validation, production, installation, and customer deployment.
  • Lead technical design reviews and ensure engineering decisions are documented and closed.
  • Establish appropriate system requirements, interface control documents, verification plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Work directly with engineers to troubleshoot difficult multidisciplinary technical problems.
  • Support prototype builds, system integration, commissioning, and customer deployments.
  • Ensure designs consider reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, safety, cost, and field performance.
  • Coordinate engineering priorities and help maintain execution tempo across multiple simultaneous programs.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers and promote strong engineering practices throughout the organization.
  • Work closely with Product, Project Management, Operations, Software, and customer-facing teams.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point when systems do not perform as expected.
  • Help improve Titan's engineering processes without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related engineering field.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience developing complex electromechanical or automated systems.
  • Strong practical understanding of systems engineering and multidisciplinary product development.
  • Demonstrated experience taking complex equipment from requirements through design, integration, validation, and deployment.
  • Experience coordinating mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and other technical disciplines.
  • Strong root-cause analysis and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Experience developing and managing system requirements and interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of design reviews, verification, validation, and engineering change processes.
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions with incomplete information.
  • Comfortable working directly with engineers, technicians, prototypes, and production equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead through technical credibility rather than organizational authority.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
  • Industrial automation
  • Robotics and motion-control systems
  • Machine design
  • Sensors and instrumentation
  • PLC and industrial controls
  • Automated inspection systems
  • Battery manufacturing or battery testing
  • Semiconductor or high-volume manufacturing equipment
  • Automotive manufacturing systems
  • Machine vision or nondestructive testing
  • Data acquisition systems
  • Factory equipment integration
  • Design for manufacturing and assembly
  • Experience working in a startup, scale-up, advanced technology company, or other fast-moving engineering environment is strongly preferred.
