Overview of Role

ZwitterCo is seeking a proactive and technically skilled Slot-Die Coating Operator to support the reliable operation and continuous improvement of our coating processes. This role focuses on operating and troubleshooting slot-die coating equipment, supporting process trials and growth initiatives, and collaborating closely with R&D during process development and scale-up.

The position includes maintaining accurate production and process documentation, supporting on-floor product development activities, and identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with strong communication skills who works effectively across production, R&D, maintenance, and quality teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Slot Die Coating Operations: Set up, operate, and monitor slot die coating equipment to produce consistent, high-quality coated materials.
  • Daily Trouble Shooting & Process Control: Provide first line trouble shooting for coating defects, equipment malfunctions, and process deviations. Implement immediate corrective actions when possible and escalate complex issues to maintenance or engineering.
  • Operating Procedures: Develop clear, concise, and accurate operating procedures (SOPs) for manufacturing equipment and processes. Review and edit existing procedures to ensure they are up-to-date and reflect best practices.
  • Product Development Coordination: Serve as a key point of contact on the production floor for product development activities. Coordinate trials, gather feedback, and ensure that new product introductions are executed efficiently and effectively within the manufacturing environment.
  • External Manufacturing Support: Travel to external manufacturing partners as needed to support technology transfer, process scale-up, and troubleshooting activities. Collaborate with partner teams to diagnose process issues, optimize coating performance, and ensure the successful implementation of ZwitterCo coating processes.
  • Safety and Quality Improvements: Proactively identify opportunities for enhancing safety and product quality within the manufacturing processes. Collaborate with the maintenance team and other relevant departments to implement these improvements.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Maintain clear and effective communication with production teams, engineering, maintenance, and quality assurance to ensure seamless operations and project execution.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment issues, troubleshooting steps, process changes, and improvement initiatives.
  • Training Support: Assist in training production personnel on new equipment, processes, and operating procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a technical field (e.g., Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology) or equivalent hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with slot-die coating or other precision coating methods
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve manufacturing process issues, including equipment malfunctions, coating defects, or process variability.
  • Experience setting up, adjusting, and monitoring manufacturing equipment in a production or pilot-scale environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across production, engineering, and maintenance teams.
  • Understanding safety regulations and quality standards in a manufacturing setting.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience operating or troubleshooting web-handling or roll-to-roll manufacturing equipment, such as coating, laminating, film converting, or similar continuous processes.
  • Experience supporting process scale-up, equipment commissioning, or technology transfer activities.
  • Experience writing or editing SOPs, work instructions, or manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience participating in equipment start-ups and process implementation.

Schedule, Travel, Location, and Compensation


This is a full-time position on-site in Woburn, MA, and reports directly to the Production Manager.

Travel for this role is expected to be between 0% - 5%.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and include equity and benefits.
